History

10th Annual Bow Meow Golf Tournament
Join the 10th annual golf tournament at Osprey Cove, a Mark McCumber Golf Course. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society.

4th of July Celebration
The 41st Annual Independence Day Celebration is sponsored by the St. Marys Kiwanis Club. There is a race, parade, arts and crafts, food, live entertainment, fireworks and much more.

Coastal Outdoor Weekend
This three-day gathering will feature nature seminars, kayaking instruction, excursions and gourmet food, all within the 57 acre confines of Gilligan’s Island. This facility features trails through native and pristine Georgia habitat, as well as a cool, spring-fed lake. Two on-water excursions will be guided by Up The Creek Xpeditions: an Evening Marsh Paddle and a Morning Paddle

37th Rock Shrimp Festival
The Rock Shrimp Festival features arts, crafts, food vendors and a parade. Rock Shrimp dinners begin serving at 11:00 a.m. There will also be live entertainment throughout the day.

Hay Days
Hay Days events include The Pumpkin Palooza, a Pumpkin Patch and more. Great for everyone in the family! Stroll through the Historic District and view the Scarecrows who are all dressed up to celebrate the Fall Season.

White Lighting Ceremony
The White Lighting Ceremony begins at Dusk at the old paper mill site in Historic Downtown St. Mary’. The walking parade proceeds down Osborne Street with Santa and Mrs. Santa leading the way.

Christmas in the Park and 6th Annual Search for the Yule Log
Annual Fun for the kids and the family in Historic Downtown St. Marys 6th Annual Search for the Yule Log Prizes will be given to winner finding the Yule Log. Admission is an unwrapped toy for a girl or a boy. These toys will be distributed to the Children of Camden who may not get a Christmas otherwise by the Badge of Benevolence.

Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitors Center
Come see the fascinating displays depicting the island’s rich heritage and amazing natural resources are a great introduction to your island adventure. Be sure and visit he gift shop for treasures to take back home.

Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum
Just one block from the waterfront, this museum houses a collection of artifacts from Cumberland Island including remembrances of the famed Carnegie lifestyle and remnants of the Timucuuan Indians who once inhabited the island. A moving exhibit of “the Forgotten Battle” demonstrates the dramatic events that occurred when the last battle of the War of 1812 was fought at St. Marys Point Peter.

The “Grand Dame of St. Marys,” Orange Hall is an extraordinary example antebellum life in Greek revival style dating back to circa 1820s – 1830s. She reigns in grandeur as you make your entrance into the historic district of Downtown St. Marys and serves as a house museum with tours seven days a week. History buffs or those who simply appreciate architectural beauty will enjoy a tour through this elegant structure.

As home of King Bay Naval Submarine Base, one of only two Trident submarine bases in the world, it is only natural that St. Marys plays host to one of the world’s most extensive collection of submarine memorabilia and displays. Get ready to see firsthand a working periscope, models of torpedoes, and many displays made from actual submarines.

Howard Gilman Memorial Park on the Waterfront
Among St. Marys many spectacular settings is the beautiful waterfront park where old-fashioned wooden swings hang in rose covered arbors. This is the ideal spot from which to watch the shrimp boats come in or witness a stunning sunset. Just a short stroll from the main park is the Tilden Norris Marsh Walk where strollers can merge into the surrounds of an authentic tidal marsh and watch fiddler crabs and snowy egrets.
